Every good story has a place where it begins. For No Mo Squito, that place is The Soap Store in Ruidoso, New Mexico—and we’re delighted to bring it home.

Our story began in 2013 at 22 Bath and Body / The Soap Store, with a simple idea: create a lotion that felt wonderful on your skin and smelled just as lovely. Customers enjoyed its beach blossom and sea salt fragrance, and some began sharing an unexpected observation: mosquitoes seemed less interested in joining them.

Those conversations inspired further development, and the product eventually made its way to Texas, where the No Mo Squito brand grew and found a loyal following. Today, its story comes full circle, returning to the mountain community where the original inspiration took root.

A personal connection

We’re Cecily and Darren Hooker, owners of The Soap Store. The creators of No Mo Squito were our next-door neighbors and friends for ten years, so this homecoming means much more to us than adding another product to our shelves.

We purchased The Soap Store from them in January 2024. In September 2026, we acquired No Mo Squito, bringing the brand home and preparing to make it right here in our Ruidoso shop. We’re proud to carry its story forward as part of our family business.
